INSTRUCTIONS

These instructions apply to both the Presentation and Research Report assessments
Presentation and Participation – 10% (weeks 5-11)
For this component you will be required to do a 5-10 minute presentation on an academic paper
on Software Quality, Software Change Management or Software Testing. The paper you select
must be directly relevant to these 3 topics. The paper can be from any academic conference or
other relevant Journal or online sources such as Google Scholar, Academic department
repositories etc… All students must select a different paper, thus the paper must be approved
by your lecturer or tutor before proceeding. In case two students are wanting to present on the
same paper, the first who emails the lecturer or tutor with their choice will be allocated that
paper.
A grade of 10% of the Units mark will be awarded for your presentation and your participation in
other student presentations. Prepare a powerpoint slide presentation for your presentation.
Note: if class numbers are large the presentation may be organized into groups.
The presentations will occur in sessions 5-11 on the academic calendar and the order of
presentations will be by arrangement, but these will be evenly spread over those sessions.
Research Report – 15% (Due week 9)
For this component you will prepare a report or critique on the paper you chose from the
Presentation and Participation component above.
Your report should be limited to approx. 1500 words (not including references). Use 1.5 spacing with a 12 point Times New Roman font. Though your paper will largely be based on the chosen
article, you can use other sources to support your discussion. Citation of sources is mandatory
and must be in the Harvard style.
Your report or critique must include:
Title Page: The title of the assessment, the name of the paper you are reviewing and its
authors, and your name and student ID.
Introduction: A statement of the purpose for your report and a brief outline of how you will
discuss the selected article (one or two paragraphs). Make sure to identify the article being
reviewed.
Body of Report: Describe the intention and content of the article. If it is a research report,
discuss the research method (survey, case study, observation, experiment, or other method)
and findings. Comment on problems or issues highlighted by the authors. Discuss the
conclusions of the article and how they are relevant to what you are studying this semester.
Conclusion: A summary of the points you have made in the body of the paper. The conclusion
should not introduce any ‘new’ material that was not discussed in the body of the paper. (One
or two paragraphs)
References: A list of sources used in your text. They should be listed alphabetically by (first)
author’s family name. Follow the Harvard style.
The footer must include your name, student ID, and page number.

Introduction

In this report, there is a critical analysis of the article entitled, “The Evaluation of Software Quality Factors in Very Large Information Systems.” According to the authors, quality models link together and define different software measurement techniques and metrics which when assessed, the approach assumes must be adequately common for the hybrid software and hardware systems. In this article, the software quality metrics that are taken into account in large organizations are considered. Taking into account measures that are considered in large organizations is a rational approach for the users because it shows the practical large scale impacts of software quality [1]. The reason for this argument is that the systems call for a high level of parallelism and tend to implicate a huge amount of processing components. In totality, the authors are highly justified to consider the large organizations on account of the scale of their operations and application of software in business.

According to the authors, achieving optimal performance in large information systems calls for a huge amount of computing power with reference to disk space, memory, and processors. In line with this thought pattern, other scholars assert that complex information systems require the creation of advanced methods for large-scale data management and well-organized techniques of physical gathering [2]. Physical access to data on worldwide distributed management system and secondary storage are also important elements in a large information system arrangement. It could involve advanced object-oriented design and modeling techniques like computational grids in a bid to manage high levels of convolution.
