During the 1930s, much of the world seemed to give up on their hope for a democratic solution to their problems and instead turned to totalitarianism, both in Europe and in Asia.

I selected Germany/Hitler for this discussion. Factors such as history, political landscape, and economic collapse played a crucial role in the rise of totalitarianism in Germany in the 1930s. According to Hendy (2016), totalitarian movements took control of Germany because of the economic collapse that was witnessed after World War 1. Germany got the brunt of the blame for the occurrence of the war and was slapped with reparations that left its economy on its knees (Duiker, 2015).
