Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer that circumnavigated Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, as well as Florida. He is credited with developing a European settlement in Puerto Rico, being the initial European to get to Florida, providing the land its name (Turner, 2013). Although there is no evidence to sustain this case, tale states that Ponce de Leon located Florida while searching for the legendary Eternal youth.
