In this week’s reading and lesson, we have learned about the Spanish exploration of the New World and the Spanish Empire’s conquest of the Americas. Guided by your reading this week, conduct outside research to find a Spanish explorer of the New World (between 1492 and 1530).

For the initial post, summarizes your selected explorer’s journey and illustrate the importance (or failures) of their mission in the New World.

NOTE: Do not use Christopher Columbus as your explorer.

Juan Ponce de Leon was a Spanish explorer that circumnavigated Hispaniola, Puerto Rico, as well as Florida. He is credited with developing a European settlement in Puerto Rico, being the initial European to get to Florida, providing the land its name (Turner, 2013). Although there is no evidence to sustain this case, tale states that Ponce de Leon located Florida while searching for the legendary Eternal youth.
