Medical Indications

Beneficence and Nonmaleficence

According to Beauchamp and Childress (2019), beneficence is an act done to benefit others. It entails actions done out of mercy and kindness. The medical indications reveal that James suffered from acute glomerulonephritis which was a result of strep infection. The physician in this case study acts in beneficence when he accurately diagnoses the problem and advises the parents to carry out dialysis. Non-maleficence is the moral authority over oneself not to harm a patient. The physician does this when he advises the patient on the right steps to take to prevent further damage to James’s health.
