Solution

Leadership is essential in maintaining a functional group or organization. The role of a leader is to guide or command followers. How a leader accomplishes the purpose of leadership and being a good leader changes according to the situation. The purpose of their leadership is to effectively direct others and bring out the best work in their subordinates. Directing others is a complicated task and “the effectiveness of a manager depends on several types of power relationships, including the downward power of the leader over subordinates, the upward power of subordinates over the leader, the upward power of the leader over superiors, and the lateral power of the leader over other people in the organization” (Yukl 197).
