Environmental sustainability has been a focus throughout the world and rightly so. We need to ensure that we are good stewards with what we have been given. This means for us in Australia and more specifically in the workplace we need to become resources conservative, minimise waste and in general do our part for a ‘greener’ Your task is to write a sustainability policy for your business. This policy must be formatted and professional and can be based on any sustainability area you would like to see implemented. This project consists of a singular task, which consists of four elements and they are:

  1. Develop workplace sustainability policy
  2. Communicate workplace sustainability policy
  3. Implement workplace sustainability policy
  4. Review workplace sustainability policy implementation

You will need to in an essay of no more than five hundred words per element discuss how you would address each point.

  • In your sustainability policy, you must:

o   Define scope of sustainability policy

o Explain how you gather information from a range of sources to plan and develop policy

o Identify and consult stakeholders as a key component of the policy development process

o Include appropriate strategies in policy at all stages of work for minimising resource use, reducing toxic material and hazardous chemical use, and employing life cycle management approaches

o Make recommendations for policy options based on likely effectiveness, timeframes and cost

o Explain how you develop policy that reflects the organisation’s commitment to sustainability as an integral part of business planning and as a business opportunity

o Explain how you agree to appropriate methods of implementation

·         Communicate the policy to stakeholders including:

o   How will you promote the workplace sustainability policy, including its expected outcome to key stakeholders
o   How will you inform those involved in implementing the policy as to outcomes expected, activities to be undertaken and responsibilities assigned

  • Implement the policy including:

o   Developing and communicating procedures to help implement the workplace sustainability policy to staff, families and children
o   What strategies will you use for continuous improvement in resource efficiency
o   Establish and assign responsibility to use recording systems for tracking continuous improvements in sustainability approaches

  • Review the policy implementation including:

o   Documenting outcomes and providing feedback to key personnel and stakeholders
o   Investigating successes or otherwise of policy
o   How you will monitor records to identify trends that may require remedial action and use to promote continuous improvement of performance
o   How you will modify policy and or procedures as required to ensure improvements are made

Assessment 3 – Case Study

The case study is a stand-alone activity that is assessed separately to the activities that form the evidence portfolio. The case study will allow the learner to display required knowledge and skills that are essential when contextualizing overall competency.
